How Good Posture Can Help Cure Back Pain

Back pain is a common ailment. Studies have shown that 8 out of 10 people suffer from back pain at some point in their lives. Back pain could be a result of an accident or an injury. It could also be a medical condition such as skeletal irregularities (scoliosis). The most common cause of back pain, though is bad posture. Bad posture often involves slouching and bending. For example, if you spend most of your day bent, typing on your smartphone or laptop, your muscles will be strained.

Frequent body slouches, neck bending, or standing on one leg, can also result in back pain. Back pain resulting from bad posture can be remedied with a better posture. By adjusting your posture, you can make your back healthy again. To improve your body posture, make sure you;

  1. Stand straight

When you stand, make sure you stand erect. To stand erect, your spine should be straightened, your head should be held high, and your weight should be shared evenly on both of your legs. Avoid slouching or resting all your weight on one leg. Also, keep your neck straight and staring straight ahead.

  1. Stay conscious

Most people slouch when they become careless of their posture. For example, you could be engrossed pressing your computer or watching television and start slouching for a long period of time. In order to improve your posture, you need to be conscious of it until you become accustomed to always taking on the right posture.

  1. Sit properly

Most people slouch when sitting down. When you need to use your computer, get a chair that can properly support your spine. This makes it easier for you to sit properly. Sitting on a chair without a backrest or a chair that doesn't fully support your back will make you slouch. Also when you sit, keep both your feet on the ground with your knees bent.

  1. Straighten your neck

When pressing smartphones, most people keep their necks bent in the wrong position. It’s either bent forward or bent to the side. This often leads to temporary back and neck pain. If this posture becomes a regular habit, it could result in major back and neck pain. To prevent this, keep your head in the same line as your spine and look straight ahead.
